1st Annual World Series of Fiddling - 1978

Happy November everyone!  I'm doing my best to keep this site active this fall and winter with new material.  Here we have "The 1st World Series of Fiddling" LP that was recorded live during the contest boom in the United Sates after the success of Weiser.

The biggest reason I acquired this record was because of track 12.  The famous Missouri fiddler, Jake Hockemeyer, from Mokane, Missouri.  This is one of the few commercially released recordings of him.

You can listen to a full length album of Jake's tunes at our Missouri State Old-Time Fiddler's Association Bandcamp page by clicking HERE.

The album notes are copied below for the World Series of Fiddling LP.

"The 1st Annual World Series of Fiddling held at Little River Bluegrass Park, Norman, Oklahoma, kicked off Friday night, June 2, 1978 with a jam session on stage being led by such notables as Famous Amos, Benny Kubiak, Frankie Kelly, Cotton Combs, Earl Jennings, Ronnie Stewart, Bob & Judy Williams, Mack Miner, Pat Stevens, Phil Milner, Allan Ward, Fred Carpenter, and a host of contests that make "The Big Sound."

After a full day of preliminaries on Saturday, the field was cut down to 15 fiddlers.  Sunday's 10 finalists will be found on this album in order of their finish."

You can access the folder to download the album by clicking the cover art above.  There are two folders, one is a compressed .zip file for easier downloading on a desktop, and there is also a folder of individual tracks for listening online or on your phone.  Hope everyone enjoys!

Thanks to each and everyone of you that follows this blog, helps me with the research involved, and all of my fellow music nerds who help support my efforts here. There's a lot of hours, weekends, and a bit of money that goes into this site and storage. I always enjoy getting feedback, stories, and whatever so please leave a comment or email me at - BrokenBowFiddleCo@gmail.com
