Tunemasters - featuring Gene Wells, Henry Wells, Cleo Persinger, and Charlie Jackson

While doing a little housekeeping this weekend I found a treasure that's been hanging around 25 years waiting to be found.  "A copy of a copy of an old reel-to-reel tape belonging to Cleo Persinger's sister."

The following recording is *audio only* from a television show which aired on our local NBC affiliate in Columbia, Missouri and filmed in 1969.

** I've looked around online for more information on this show but haven't been able to come up with anything at all.  If anyone has more information please email me! **

This is a HUGE moment in Missouri fiddling!!  You have Cleo Persinger, former National Old-Time Fiddle Champion (1964), local fiddle heroes Gene and Henry Wells, and another phenomenal fiddler unknown to me, Charlie Jackson who all lived within 10 or 15 miles or each other at the time this was recorded.

As stated earlier, this is a copy of a copy of a copy so the audio quality isn't the best I've shared on here however this is a very strong representation of the powerful fiddling going on in Missouri during this time.

Tune list - Sally Gooden (Gene Wells); Marmaduke's Hornpipe (Charlie Jackson); Bill Cheatem (Cleo Persinger); Ragtime Annie (Cleo); Fire on the Mountain (Gene); Crystal Stream Waltz (Charlie); Katy Hill (Henry Wells); Devil's Dream (Cleo); Bile 'dem' Cabbage Down (Cleo, Gene, Henry, Charlie).  Recorded 1969 at KOMU studios in Columbia, Missouri.

Thanks to each and everyone of you that follows this blog, helps me with the research involved, and all of my fellow music nerds who support my efforts here. There's a lot of hours after work, weekends, and a bit of money that goes into this site and storage. I always enjoy getting feedback, stories, and whatever so please leave a comment or email me at - BrokenBowFiddleCo@gmail.com
